Food Waste Prevention Week Heroes: Answering the call to action!

Clark County proclaimed April 1-7 as Food Waste Prevention Week! Our Solid Waste Education and Outreach teams at Clark County are one of over 600 organizations working around the globe to stop food waste from ending up in the landfill. If your business is interested in becoming a Food Waste Prevention Week Partner, click here.

Food waste creates 58% of the methane emissions from landfills, which is equivalent to the methane emissions from 50 million gas-powered passenger vehicles in the U.S. This means preventing food waste is paramount to curbing greenhouse gasses. Of those emissions, over 50% of the decomposing organic material is produced at the individual level. The average household of four throws away over $2,500 per year by wasting food, that's a lot of dough! Start your journey to becoming a food waste prevention hero this week. By learning innovative ways to prevent wasting food, your family could save thousands of dollars per year!
