Northwest Staffing Resources is a small office in Vancouver with large goals. Employees at this downtown office organize many projects involving social justice and sustainability, on top of their regular work of supporting locals in search of work, and businesses in search of employees.
The effort to become paperless has been a large ongoing project, with applications, timesheets, reports and more now being fully electronic. Clients and staff alike enjoy the paperless system because it means less to print, instant online access, and fewer trips into the branch office.
To support the community in other ways, employees have volunteered at homeless shelters, donated food and built backpacks for children, sorted food donations at food banks, and donated clothing to young women in need.
When asked what her favorite part about sustainability is, green team leader Savanna Wood said: "I love that [sustainability] is always changing; how we can improve again and again." The next project that Savanna has her eyes on involves sustainable fashion and clothing recycling.
Other employees at Northwest Staffing Resources welcome the sustainable changes and are excited to see compost collection beginning this year. Green team members can often be found at the Green Business Morning Blends, and are always looking for green ideas and opportunities to better their workplace and the community.
